My dear daughter's birthday is the first week of December and it was a party year for her (we only have parties when they're turning an even number). We had a Butterflies Garden theme and I found Pinterest was a real help in planning. I'll share some of the the decorations I made.
I've been wanting to make a wreath using old book pages for ages and finally used the party as an excuse to give it a try. I used an old dictionary to create cones (a lot of them!), then used my hot glue gun to glue them to a circle I cut from thick cardboard. I filled the hole in the centre with a large circle I cut from an extra page and used foam tape to mount another card circle with my DD's initial. I painted the chipboard initial and decorated it with glue and glitter. I loved the way it turned out. I used tape that could be easily removed for the initial and after her birthday I put a Christmassy quote up instead.
This was a cute idea I might have found on Pinterest (can't remember now). It's lolly pops with crepe paper twisted around them to look like flowers. I placed them in a pot (clean naturally) with florists foam and some ivy from my garden. The girls loved these and it fit well with our theme.
This was fun to make! I picked some paper in colours my daughter likes and went to town with my Martha Stewart butterfly punches. After I had what seemed like a million of them, I sewed them in strips with my sewing machine. I found a large metal hoop at Spotlight, which I wrapped in ribbon, then draped the butterfly strips around it and tied some net bows on it also. My lovely husband tied it to our light with some fishing line.
This is the cake (and my daughter admiring it). I did find the idea for this on Pinterest. It was 5 layers of cake going from white through to pinks and purples. It was super sweet and hard to keep nice on a hot day. I end up serving it slightly frozen but the kids didn't seem to mind ;-)
Keep blossoming!
(Obviously this was written quite a while ago and I've only got around to posting it now, bad blogger sorry!)
